Why we self-perform it
Most Florida general contractors subcontract dewatering and support of excavation. That puts the two items most likely to stop a job in the hands of someone whose schedule, mobilization and priorities belong to a different project.
We do them ourselves. It is a narrower business and a harder one to staff, and it means that when the water is the problem, the person solving it works for the same contract you do.
Tidal work
Our leadership has delivered deep foundations in tidal environments, including work at 1515 Surf Avenue in New York. That experience is why we take waterfront jobs where the table moves twice a day and a system designed for the mean would fail on the flood.
That project experience belongs to the leadership and predates and runs alongside the firm — we say that rather than implying the company built it.
What we do in preconstruction
Read the borings before pricing. Establish the discharge permit path, because it is frequently the longest lead item. Look at what is next door and what it is founded on. Agree monitoring thresholds while everyone is calm.
None of that is glamorous and all of it is cheaper than the alternative, which is finding the same information with a crew standing still.
